Let’s talk about colon cancer.

Colon cancer is a type of cancer that affects the colon or rectum when a polyp, an abnormal growth, is present. Doctors perform routine screenings to check for polyps. These screenings are crucial so that polyps can be found and treated before turning into cancer.

  • Eliminating certain skin cancers, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in men and women (CDC).
  • Between 60 and 90% of colon cancer deaths could be prevented if people over 50 received routine colonoscopy screenings.
  • 40% of at-risk Americans aren’t getting screened.

Possible symptoms of colon cancer include:

  • Bowel habit changes
  • Blood in stool or bowel movement
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Abdominal pain or cramping
  • Unexplained weight loss
