SIHF Healthcare Celebrates National Health Center Week - Health Screenings and Food Drives to be Held Throughout St. Clair County
SIHF Healthcare is celebrating National Health Center Week 2017 (NHCW), August 13-19, with public health screenings across southern Illinois and charity donation drives at its more than 30 health centers.
What began as a pilot project during President Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty in 1965, today’s community health centers serve more than 23 million people nationwide, many of whom are uninsured or underinsured. As the second largest Federally Qualified Health Center network in Illinois, SIHF Healthcare operates more than 30 health centers in the region, including 13 in St. Clair County, as well as a number of support services.
“SIHF Healthcare is committed to helping residents of St. Clair County lead their healthiest lives by providing them with accessible, integrated and quality healthcare,” said Kena Gray, health center manager of SIHF Healthcare – Centreville, located at 6000 Bond Avenue. “National Health Center Week is yet another opportunity for us to continue to serve families and individuals throughout the region.”
In recognition of NHCW, SIHF Healthcare sites located at 818 Upper Cahokia Road in Cahokia, Ill. and 100 N. 8th Street Suite 120 in East St. Louis, Ill. are providing blood pressure and glucose screenings at the Annual Community Resource Fair. The fair will begin on Saturday, August 19 at 9 a.m. at the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church located at 5803 Belmont Ave. in East St. Louis.
SIHF Healthcare at 2568 North 41 St. in Fairmont City, Ill. will be hosting health screenings in front of the health center all day on Wednesday, August 16. These screenings will include glucose and blood pressure checks. On Friday, August 18, a Navigator will be at the center to register patients from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. The center is also collecting school supplies for the Fairmont City Library.
