What are the risk factors for getting breast cancer?
- Age 50 or older, although it can happen at an earlier age
- Women with no children
- First child born when you were over 35 years old
- Other risk factors, such as weight, lack of exercise, drinking alcohol or smoking
How can you prevent breast cancer?
- Have an annual checkup and keep all your appointments
- Report any changes in the look or feel of your breasts
- Exercise and eat a healthy diet
- Limit alcohol and do not smoke
Can men get breast cancer?
- Yes, about 1 in 100 breast cancer diagnoses are in men
How do you detect breast cancer?
- Mammograms – every 2 years for women 50 to 74 years of age
- Clinical breast exams – every year by your provider
- Breast self-awareness - report any changes to your provider
